How it will work
Two calls, and you never store a code
Verify takes the code off your hands: it creates it, sends it, checks it and expires it.
Ask for a code
Send the phone number. We create the code and pick the channel: Telegram if the number has it, SMS if not.
Fall back by itself
If the Telegram code is not delivered in time, the same code follows by SMS, so nobody waits at your sign up screen.
Check the answer
Send what the person typed and get a plain yes or no. Codes work once, expire, and stop after too many wrong tries.
Why Telegram first
Pay less for the codes that arrive
Much of the world has Telegram installed, and a code delivered there costs a fraction of an SMS to the same country. You pay for a Telegram code only when it is delivered, and SMS stays as the fallback that reaches every phone.
